Night
"I express to you my deepest gratitude. No one is as capable of gratitude as one who has emerged from the kingdom of night. We know that every moment is a moment of grace, every hour and offering; not to share them would mean to betray them. Our lives no longer belong to us alone; they belong to all those who need us desperately."
Elie Wiesel, from his Nobel Lecture

Peter Erbe, author

A Wonderful Philosophy for Growth and a Satisfying Life
"I want to keep my soul fertile for changes, so things keep getting born in me, so things keep dying when it's time for them to die. I want to keep walking away from the person I was a moment ago, because a mind was made to figure things out, not read the same page recurrently."
Donald Miller, from his book, "Through Painted Deserts"

Clarity
I want to share a quote from the book, "Knockout: Interviews with Doctors Who are Curing Cancer and How to Prevent Getting it in the First Place", by Suzanne Somers, cancer survivor. It's a quote that I believe captures a very simple, yet significant understanding – gained from a hospital bed - of what life is meant to be about:
Information, Inspiration and Insights
Here are some of the things that emerged this week from the discussions and from my communications with others who share the journey with us:
Thought on "A Fighting Spirit"
Last week I shared with you the commentary, A Fighting Spirit Won't Save Your Life, and asked if anyone would like to respond to the thoughts the author wrote. Several of you did and I gratefully share what I received in writing with you today. Thank you for these thoughtful responses, for the variations on what it means to have a positive attitude, a “fighting spirit.” Your experiences, what you have come to understand, are valuable insights from which all of us can learn, and consider our own beliefs and understandings about attitude’s impact on health and life.
A Fighting Spirit
The commentary - "A Fighting Spirit Won't Save Your Life" - http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/25/opinion/25sloan.html?_r=1&nl=todayshea... - in the "New York Times" this week, made me think of all the people I talk with each week. Every week, in one way or another, I hear about the role that one's attitude can play on the journey - with cancer and simply throughout life.
